The Auburn Public Library is located about 19 miles south of the state capital of Springfield.  We serve a small community of approximately 4,826.  The city of Auburn dates back to 1835 and the library itself has roots going back as far as 1932.  We became an official municipal library on May 3, 1943 when the Auburn City Council passed an ordinance establishing a Free Public Library and Reading Room.

At the Auburn Public Library, our mission is to provide access to materials, services, and technology that meets the educational, cultural, and recreational needs of our patrons.  Our goal is to promote life-long learning, literacy, and community enrichment.  For more information about our mission and goals, please check out our Long Range Plan.

We strive to meet our goals through a variety of services to our community.  We offer fun and engaging programming for adults, including our Adult Fiction Book Club that meets the first Monday of every month.  To help make the long, cold months pass, we offer our Adult Winter Reading Program.  Held annually from January through March, this program encourages adults to read through fun programming and prizes.  We also offer a variety of events for children of all ages throughout the year.  Preschool story-time is held every other Wednesday at 11 am and 1 pm and Baby Lap-sit Story-time takes place every other Friday at 2 pm.  Every summer, the Library offers our Summer Reading Program for kids 0-18 years of age.  Kids who participate are rewarded for reading and attending library events. The Library is also a donation center for items such as glasses, fleece for blankets, school supplies, box tops and much more!

The Auburn Public Library offers a range of items available for patrons to check out.  We offer books, large print materials, DVDs, audio CDs, magazines, video games, educational kits and so much more!  New releases are made available to our patrons on their release date whenever possible.  We include new releases in our monthly newsletter.  If patrons cannot find what they are looking for on our shelves, the Library can request items from other libraries through inter-library loan.

The library has four computers with Microsoft Office 2019 and high speed internet that are available to patrons and visitors, along with free WiFi.  Patrons and visitors can also print or make copies from the Library for a small fee.  Scanning documents and faxing is free.  The Auburn Public Library also offers lamination of paper up to size 8 1/2 x 11 for a small fee.

The library has a small meeting room, named for long-time Library Board Trustee, Will Wietfeldt, that is available for public use.  A $20.00 refundable deposit and $10.00 per hour fee are required to reserve the meeting room.  The fee is waived for non-profit organizations.  Patrons may call or visit the library in advance to reserve the room.  Reservations can only be made up to 3 months in advance.
